Specific to India
- Online / digital submission: Colour JPEG at 200 dpi — 3.5 cm high by 2.5 cm wide (about 197 × 276 px). Protean allows 50 KB but older UTIITSL guidance says 20 KB, so stay under 20 KB. Signature: JPEG at 200 dpi, 4.5 × 2 cm strip, black ink on white paper, under 10 KB to be safe.
- Printed copies: 2 photos for a paper application; none in the paperless Aadhaar e-KYC route, where the photo comes from UIDAI
- Used for Form 49A (Indian citizens) and 49AA (foreign citizens).
- The PAN photo is a small 3.5 × 2.5 cm portrait — smaller than a passport photo.
- The authority publishes no head height in millimetres; the 70–80 % ICAO framing used here is what its capture stations enforce.

- 3
Fix anything flagged
Each check tells you what is wrong in millimetres — zoom, move, or retake. The background is replaced with the required colour.
