Specific to Canada

  • Online / digital submission: Online renewal only: a JPEG straight from the camera, 3:2 portrait, 1200–3000 px wide by 1800–4500 px high, 200 KB to 5 MB, chin-to-crown 45–50 % of the height.
  • Printed copies: 2 identical photos taken by a commercial photographer — home prints are not accepted for paper applications
  • The photographer must stamp or write the studio name, address and the date on the back of one photo.

How to make a Canada passport photo at home

  1. 1

    Take the photo

Stand 0.5–1 m in front of a plain light wall, face a window, camera at eye level 1.5–2 m away. Neutral expression, mouth closed.

  2. 2

    Upload it here

The face is detected, the head is levelled and the crop is set so the head measures 33.5 mm — inside the 31–36 mm range.

  3. 3

    Fix anything flagged

Each check tells you what is wrong in millimetres — zoom, move, or retake. The background is replaced with the required colour.

  4. 4

    Download & print

Save the single photo or the 4 × 6 sheet (4 photos) and print at 100% on photo paper.
